Q: This is your second exhibition following last year's. Are there any changes this time?

A: There is no change. The state of BuiperWare keeps changing which is normal. However, there is a very influential moment when YouTube claimed us a "copyright infringement complaint" regarding the soundtrack of our video piece "Cloud". The reason was just that it can't be monetized. But it made us think again about the soundtrack of our videos.

Q: How did it affect your work this time?

A: In this piece, the text, sound, and color(light) are all linked. For example, "a" is linked to "C - red" and "i" is to "D# - blue”. As the text goes, the sounds and colors evolve. We worded that explaining this mechanism, lines from a movie scene, quotes from philosophical books, and our own notes. They are not related in any way.
We work on the video preferably as a painting. Creating paintings usually mean we control the images in terms of color, shape, composition, materials, etc. In other words, we draw. Therefore, we have detached the process from us and let the text do the work.
Since the text is hidden, the language does not connect with the viewer in a meaningful way. Or rather, that is the intention. On the other hand, we can't control sound and color (light), so the finished piece doesn't have a connection with us... the work is created "outside" of us (including you). In other words, it's not “ours”..
This is probably a delusion. Haha
This work is just an idea, as the concept has been carried over from last time. However, it is significant that the allegation from YouTube was a stimulus and one of the reasons why the idea was born. The sound of this ten seconds video was made in the countryside. However, the fact which this piece is somehow connected to a huge network is a provocation. It is frightening to think if it's being used in surveillance systems like China's.

Q: It's a bit difficult to understand. Are you considering this piece doesn't belong to BuiperWare creation?

A: A long time ago, the sun was orbiting the earth which became denied by the natural sciences. But the world kept orbiting around the individuals. As anthropocentrism, humanism. However, in the current world, individuals also move, change and transform within the movement of the world.
In our opinion, it is the modernity of this era that individual thoughts and expressions are no longer unnecessary but that they are instantly relativized or suddenly caught off-guard. So even though the work is BuiperWare's, it sounds as we don't intend and colors we don't intend.

Q: What are your thoughts on digitalization? NFT has been a hot topic for a year or so.

A: To be honest, NFT is a very complicated and specific technology we don't really understand. However, our work is made on the computer and published through it thus it is in the digital world. If you try to make a video piece, you cannot avoid it. Through the idea, software, hardware, the digital environment, the server, and the internet… all of these processes are related to the creation of the work. As a whole process indicate digitization for us. Of course, we work on it because it is realistic and fun.
We live in an era where artworks are being tokenized. Digitizing paintings on paper and turning it into an NFT is not fun because it just changes the market for us. There is a reality to the digitization of our work itself. The changes since the establishment of the virtual currency are amazing, so the delusions will grow more and more. Haha

Q: Thank you. I look for great works from you.

A: Thank you.
